Project Four

Active Site Clamps of ATP Synthase

Audience: Researchers | Purpose: Journal Figure & Presentations

This conceptual image illustrates the active site of a single catalytic β subunit. The study revealed two distinct clamping mechanisms surrounding the reaction center. The first clamp is located within the phosphate-binding pocket, known as the P-loop, with boundaries defined by residues βA158 and βT163. The second clamp spans two subdomains within the nucleotide-binding domain housing the active site, with boundaries marked by residues βA158 and βE188. This model is based on structural data from PDB entries 1h8e and 2f43.
